Cara Ramirez loves cloth diapers because they saved her daughter’s bum from horrible diaper rash. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. My daughter was allergic to the chemicals in the disposables diapers and she had a diaper rash so bad her doctor prescribed burn cream that they usually only give to burn patients! When she was three months old my husband finally got a great job out of college and we had the money to buy her FuzziBunz. We bought all One Size so we could get the most use out of them (and because she has very chunky legs). Within a week of using our new diapers her rash was GONE! We LOVE these diapers and will never go back. They are super easy to use and clean and we have never had a problem with odor or stains. I never thought diapers would be so fun! I am not afraid to show people my diapers and how they work when changing her in public.
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. When we were about to give our little one a bath, my husband picked up the naked baby and patted her butt and she pooped all over him, the changer, her crib and the floor. He has never patted her butt while she was naked again.
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. Watching my daughter grow up and learn new things is so rewarding to me. The sleepless nights and rough days don’t matter when you see that little smile and her new abilities each day. In the next year we are hoping to have another baby and watching them grow up together will be amazing. I am an only child and want a big family (but not too big).
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. The last movie we watched was “The Lion King.” We got to watch it with our seven month old and she loved the colors and the music. She is in that stage where she will start moving to music and she tried “dancing” to it while on our laps.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would pay off our school loans. I try and be practical with everything I do. I know not interesting to most, but very important to me, and then we can talk about something super fun to do.

Cacie Robichaux loves knowing that cloth diapering her little one won’t have her contributing tons of disposables to land fills. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. Cloth diapers have helped me prevent putting disposable diapers on my daughter. Cloth diapers are also great for the environment, and it makes me feel good to know that instead of adding 8-10 disposable diapers per day to a land fill, I am simply adding 11 worn down cloth diapers after two years of use. Not to mention I am saving approximately $1500 on diapers.
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. My husband tried to help me in the very early baby days by changing a nightly diaper. It was 2 am, and although my baby was crying three feet from our bed, I had to wake my husband to change my daughter’s diaper. As he was getting up he asked me where the baby was located. I told him she was crying right next to the bed. He then proceeded to the baby’s room without the baby. Needless to say, the baby did not get a proper diaper change that night. He actually changed her in her pack-n-play next to our bed and did not snap the diaper shut. I awoke the next morning to find my daughter covered in poop from head to toe.
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. At this point the most rewarding thing about motherhood is the beautiful smile I’m greeted with every morning as I lift my daughter out of her crib for her feeding. It’s so wonderful to see her smile as I open the door to her room rather than the unhappy cries I used to receive in her younger days.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. I enjoy reading while feeding my daughter as well as when she is taking her daily naps. I am re-reading all of the Patricia Cornwell novels I read as a teenager. Reading the same books over a decade later I realize there are so many things I did not understand or catch the first time around. It is almost like reading the books for the first time. I really love holding my napping baby in one hand while reading a Cornwell novel in the other.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would put my family and friends on an early morning flight to Destin, FL. I would have the outlet mall open early so all of my guests could have a shopping spree before regular store hours. If the item fits on the plane for the ride home, then they can have it. Once the shopping is done, everyone will head to the beach for a full day of fun in the sun. Finally, we will have a great dinner, my treat, before heading back home.

Rachel Steffen, a.k.a “Running Rachel,” is a cloth diapering mom to three boys – one of which who has found a creative way to use his FuzziBunz. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I have been a cloth diaper Mommy for almost six years. I love that I do not have to worry about making a late night run to the store to pick up more diapers. I just need to do a load of laundry and I am all set for the following day. I love the cute cloth diapered bums. During the summer I do less laundry on the little ones because their FuzziBunz diaper is the only attire they wear on most days.
Q. How did your son discover that his FuzziBunz were the perfect way to carry around his toys and trucks?
A. My two older boys were carrying around their toys and trucks in their pockets. My youngest son noticed that he didn’t have pockets (he was only wearing a diaper) and decided to make do with what he had!

Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. I find that I am NEVER bored being a mom. Life is always an adventure and I am learning as I go.
Q. Now that you have a family, are there any traditions you have carried on from your own childhood, or any traditions you’ve started?
A. Most of my family traditions center around the holidays. We do a lot of creative fun baking, crafts, sightseeing (decorated homes), gift making and giving.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would enjoy a full, all-inclusive day at the spa. I would want someone to wait on me hand and foot. I would eat a meal at the proper temperature, sitting down, and in its entirety. I would be able to relax, bathe in peace and even ‘rest’ uninterrupted.

Jennifer Esposito has found that cloth diapering has allowed her to make new friendships and save money in other parts of her life. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I heard about cloth diapering from my friends online. Cloth diapering has opened the door to lots of conversations and new friendships. I started with FuzziBunz Perfect Size diapers and Prefolds with covers. After a few months of using both, I decided to switch to all FuzziBunz and I’m happy with that choice.
Ever since using cloth diapers, I started to look for other ways to save money, recycle and not produce as much trash. We stopped buying paper plates and cups and use regular, washable dishes and cups. We use a dishtowel to dry our hands instead of paper towels. I was surprised with how much this changed our garbage output! We also recycle.
I’m also not as afraid of poop. I’ve been potty training my middle daughter and I’m not throwing out underwear if she has a BM! I just get the diaper sprayer out and clean it up. Same thing if it gets on her clothes. I’m amazed with how much using the diaper sprayer to clean the diapers/underwear/clothes has helped keep them stain free!
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. I put my son in the pack n play when I had to run out the door to get my older daughter from the bus. In the two minutes I was gone, my son ripped off his diaper that had POOP in it and got it all over the pack n play! I found it everywhere. I realized how important it is to use diapers with snaps only!
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. One of the most rewarding parts of motherhood is watching my children grow up. I love to see them explore the word and it’s so fun to share their excitement! I like seeing their personalities develop and hearing their ideas when they begin to talk. It’s precious to hear my oldest one tell me stories or memories of things we’ve done. It makes me so proud to know how much she enjoys the things we do for her.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. I really enjoy reading magazines that have craft ideas or baking ideas for kids. I enjoy reading books by Nicholas Sparks and romantic novels. Recently I started to read Smokin’ Seventeen by Janet Evanovich. It’s the first time I picked up one of her books and her writing flows nicely. We also watch a lot of movies as a family and my kids love all the “Toy Story” movies!
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would go shopping for myself, watch a musical on Broadway, go to a spa and then relax with a glass of wine while reading in a bubble bath!

Kelly Bratt was having a major exploding diaper problem until a relative donated a box of cloth diapers to the cause. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. Cloth diapers have changed our lives in so many ways. With an exclusively breastfed baby up until 8 months, exploding diapers were pretty routine for us. Until we visited a family member who suggested cloth. She donated a box of 35 diapers to us and we were hooked. We haven’t had an explosion since switching! Sure we might have a few extra loads of laundry, but that saves a lot more than a box of ‘sposies. And we’re never worried about running out!
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. This happened before we used cloth diapers. I’m not sure what it was about Wal-mart, but every single time I brought my daughter there, she would have a blow out. Of course my husband used the spare outfit stashed in the diaper bag and I had to cart my “diaper-only” baby to the infant department to buy a new outfit. The looks I got were so embarrassing. Kudos to Wal-mart for curing baby constipation!
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. Lately, it’s been how sweet my almost 2 year old can be and knowing that I (or my husband) have taught her most of everything she knows. Motherhood proves how much of a teacher you are to your child. I love to see my daughter do new things and wonder where she got it from. Then I realize it’s a silly habit her dad or I have. It’s simply amazing.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. I watched “The 5th Quarter.” It was about a high school football player who was in a major car accident cause by his VERY STUPID friend. He had serious brain damage and was considered brain dead. His family had to pull the plug. Overall the movie could have been better, but it was a major tear-jerker!
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. Disney world! I’ve never been there and my husband isn’t a big theme park guy, but he loves Disney! So this would be where I would want to spend a day with my family!

Emily Fredrick is a nature loving mama who would spend the day hiking if she could. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. Besides saving me money, they also save me the grief of rashes. Plus the different colors make changing time fun for my older boys.
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. Well it has to do with EBF poo and my brother -in-law’s girlfriend’s purse. She wanted to hold my son when he was five months old. My fiance had put him in a loose pre-fold with a cover. The diaper was sticking out at the legs and that’s when my son decided to make his daily BM. It squirted out onto her lap and ran down her white designer pocketbook. She started screaming and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. I love the way my kids look at me with such loving eyes. It melts my heart.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. You can tell I’m a mom because the last movie I watched was Megamind. I must admit, I thought it was cute and watched it a few times with my three year old before returning it to the library.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would go hiking in the mountains of West Virginia with just my mom. I would complete the day with a nice campfire and great food. Since having kids, my mom and I haven’t had as much time to do stuff solo. I miss nature, silence and getting through a book in one day.

Amanda Green is mom to two – a girl and a new little boy. She is one dedicated mommy and barely takes a minute for herself! Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. Considering I’ve used cloth diapers since the day we left the hospital with both my daughter and son, I can say that I don’t know what life is like without cloth. I do know that they are so much easier than people think they would be. We have never used disposables and that includes camping and cross country travel.
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. This story happened only a week ago. My son is 4 months-old and I was changing his diaper at 3am. Still not quite awake, I had one side of the diaper snapped but the other was still open. I was trying to get it snapped when all of a sudden he started peeing. Now of course at 3am it took me a minute to figure out why my pajamas and bed were getting wet. My first instinct was to look at the ceiling thinking maybe there was a leak. Oh the difference between a boy and a girl! I’m still learning the diaper changes are different.
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. This is a really hard one because the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do is to be a mom. I find all of it rewarding, but if I had to give an answer I would say seeing the world through the eyes of my children. I can see the world for the first time all over again. How many things we take for granted, but when your child points it out to you and you see their excitement, it’s as if you’re seeing it for the first time too.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. Before children I was an avid reader (a book or two a week). I also loved watching a movie at home on a Friday or Saturday night with my husband. But I can honestly say I do not remember the last book or movie I saw. It’s been over two years since I enjoyed either. I wouldn’t necessarily say I don’t have the time, because I could “make” time for it. I think more than anything I haven’t made it a priority. I do foresee making reading a priority again, as I would love to lose myself into another world even though I love my daily life so much.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. Wow, I don’t even know what this would feel like. Being a stay at home mom for the last two years (with only two dates in that time), I don’t even know what 24 hours would feel like. I would spend the day pampering myself. As a mom I am definitely the last on the list list of importance. Although I wouldn’t have it any other way, I also realize I do need to take time for me because when I’m at my best my family benefits. I would get a facial, pedicure, manicure, a real haircut, a new outfit, a nice dinner date with my husband and a night in a hotel with a full nights sleep, (also haven’t had one of those in over two years).

Julie Phipps-Labonte is Canadian mom to an 8 month-old son, loves history and has been inspired by cloth diapering to “reuse” in other parts of her life. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I never expected that cloth diapers would help me save money in other areas of my life. Like many moms today, our original choice to use cloth diapers was to save money. I’ll also admit that I fell in love the new “look” of cloth diapers when I was pregnant, and FuzziBunz became my first choice after doing a diaper trial program at my local diaper shop when my son was born. I loved the wide selection of tasteful colors, trim fit and most importantly the intelligent design of the One Size style diaper.
When I started the diaper trial program, I was educated by the shopkeeper that I would need to make changes to my laundry routine in order to use their program (and ultimately to be successful with cloth diapers). I had been using brand-name detergent plus dryer sheets previously and I was skeptical that changing to a single laundry soda without all the “extras” would clean clothing, let alone diapers. At that time, I was spending about $30.00 per month on a variety of laundry products before washing a single diaper!
That day, we switched to Nellie’s Laundry Soda for all of our clothing and use Rock’N'Green for our diapers and simply use handmade wool dryer balls to soften our laundry, improve drying time and manage static cling. My diaper shop also does bulk refills of Nellie’s so that we are spending $14.00 every three months! That’s an additional savings of $900.00 per year, and all of our clothes are cleaner than they’ve ever been without a heavy perfume smell!
Cloth diapering has made me review a lot of other disposable and wasteful items we’ve been spending our hard-earned money on at the grocery store. We’ve taken a more “reuse vs. disposable” approach to living. I estimate our total savings annually are in the thousands of dollars with all of the changes we have made so far, and it all started with a small stash of cloth diapers!
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. Weeks after bringing our baby boy home, we considered ourselves pretty lucky to have not been hit by the pee fountain during a diaper change. Then finally at five weeks old, he produced one. Unfortunately, the changing table that was mounted on the playpen had a slight slope to it, and the stream arched backwards. Our little guy missed me completely, but got himself square in the face!
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. The utter look of trust, dependence and love in my baby’s eyes every time he looks at me. When he adds in a giggle or a smile, my heart just about bursts!
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. I’m a history buff who enjoys stories about British rule and monarchies. I’m currently reading The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory. She has written a series of Fictional books from the perspective of major historical figures during the Plantagenet and Tudor periods in England. Her writing style incorporates actual historical facts mixed with fiction to create a “what could have been” story from the perspective of actual people who lived during each period. The Red Queen is written from the perspective of Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII and grandmother to the infamous Henry VIII.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. Fly myself and all 600 women in my WTE forum group (January 2011) to Europe (preferably Italy) for a day of shopping and a night out on the town!

Jennica Prosky has a son (2) and a daughter (3 months), has been using cloth diapers on both since day one and is a big fan of Winnie the Pooh. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I wanted to use cloth after I was a nanny for little boy who was cloth diapered. It took some time for my husband to be comfortable with the idea. But since I am a stay at home mom and change 98% of the diapers, I knew it would not be an issue. At eight months, we were using 100% cloth with my son. My husband became a beliver in cloth. He was at work one day when a customer was talking to him about kids. The customer said something along the lines of “got to get that kid potty trained, because diapers are expensive.” My husband replied “we cloth diaper it costs pennies a day.” Now we have two in cloth and never need to spend a dime more on diapers (but of course I did because I wanted girly colors for our daughter). Cloth diapering changed not just my family’s life by saving us money, but I have since converted two other moms to cloth diapering their little ones.
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. I think the funniest diaper changing story would be when my husband was changing our daughter for the first time. He was so uncomfortable. He did great and hardly made a mess, but I think he used 10 wipes and it took more then five minutes. He was so worried he would do it wrong.
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. The smiles, giggles and hugs. I love just snuggling with my little ones and enjoy watching them learn every day.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. For my birthday, my husband took me to see the new “Winnie the Pooh” movie. It was my favorite cartoon growing up. The last book I read was “The Omen Machine” by Terry Goodkind. He is my favorite author. It is a spin-off of his “Sward of Truth” series. He is such a great writer. I have fallen in love with his characters and the way he portrays them.
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. Twenty four hours hmmm…I have always wanted to go to Florida and swim with the dolphins. Maybe fly in a hot air balloon and make a cake with Buddy Valastro.

Carrie Gulledge has a seven month old baby boy and thinks she has the next military secret weapon. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. They’ve given me a reason to look forward to the mail! :) Also, in a world that over-accessorizes girls but provides little for boys, they give us something to accessorize with! Plus, through social networking channels, the online cloth diapering community has connected me with women I wouldn’t have otherwise known!
Q. What is your funniest diapering changing, poop or pee story?
A. The other morning, I changed a diaper that was awful – it had 12 hours of pee and one good poop in it. And I thought, if only the military had a way to bottle this smell. Forget expensive nuclear weapons or torture techniques – a bottle of that smell is all they would need!
Q. What do you find most rewarding about motherhood?
A. That last moment, before they fall asleep, when they are looking at you, and only you, with so much love and trust – that is the reward of motherhood.
Q. What was the last movie you watched / or last book you read? Tell us about it.
A. The last movie I watched was Spongebob – the bane of my existence. My older kids love to watch it and they know how much that movie drives me crazy!
Q. If you had 24 hours of freedom to do anything you wanted (and money wasn’t an object), what would you do?
A. I would want to be sitting on a beach with a drink in one hand and my Kindle in the other. Then I would catch up on my sleep!!! I haven’t slept more than four hours in the last 10 months!!!
