Angela V. is a mother of two who is passionate about knowing what kinds of products you are putting in and on your body. On her blog, Earth Faerie Mama, she writes about the importance of knowing what you are bringing into your home and letting your children eat off of and play with. She makes her own bath and body products, cleaners and prefers handmade toys – and of course, cloth diapers!
Q: How have cloth diapers changed your life?
Since using cloth diapers, I have been wanting to use less disposable EVERYTHING in our house. We now use cloth wipes, un-paper towels, cloth napkins, hankies and mama cloth! I try every day to be more “green.” I even started to blog about how much I love cloth diapers and being green.
Q: The first thing I do when I wake up is…
Change my little one out of his night time diaper. With cloth diapers he is able to stay comfortable in one diaper for 10+ hours with no leaks! Then I spend time with both of my boys.
Q: No matter how much time it takes, I always…
Fold and neatly put away each cloth diaper while admiring the patterns!
Q: The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…
Dice! You never know when they will come in handy.
Q: If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…
At first I wanted to say my pajamas…butI can’t help imagining myself in a dress, since I don’t wear one often. I would love to wear my soft summer maxi dress all the time. It’s comfortable enough to sleep in but cute enough to wear out.

Trista A. is a stay-at-home mom of a seven year-old boy, a four year-old boy and a 13 month-old girl. She is married to her best friend of six years and loves discussing products, services and experience that she shares with her family on her blog, Anderson’s Angels.
Q: How have cloth diapers changed your life?
Cloth diapers have changed my life by opening my mind to a world of greener living. Thanks to cloth diapering I am now trying to help others be more aware of what products they use on their children.
Q: The first I do when I wake up is….
The first thing I do when I wake up is head for the bathroom and kick who ever is in there out so I can use it!
Q: No matter how much time it takes, I always….
Make sure that my oldest son gets his homework done correctly and that all letters and numbers are facing the correct direction. He has ADHD and has a hard time with the flipping of his numbers and letters so we try to always go back over stuff to double or triple check if needed.
Q: The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…..
I am not sure that there is anything unusual in either bag unless you count crayons that I carry along for the kids to use for impromptu coloring.
Q: If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be….
If I could live in one outfit it would be my Aeropostale sweat pants and a tank top. I love to be comfortable and that is my most comfortable outfit.

After a few weeks of cloth diapering tips and tricks, Babble.com news and best green baby products, we’re thrilled to return to our Monday Mama series.
Meg M., new mom to six-month old Eli and wife to Josh, lives with her family outside of Pittsburgh, PA. She blogs about domestic open adoption, parenthood and life at God Will Fill This Nest. She is a developmental specialist for children from birth through three years old and also helps with her family’s restaurant.
Q: How have cloth diapers changed your life?
I honestly did not even know that anyone cloth diapered until two years ago when a family I see for my job began using FuzziBunz (I work for a state program for infants and toddlers with developmental delays). The second I saw that cute little baby running around with that fluffy bum, I knew I wanted to use them, but didn’t know much about them or have any kids yet. When we began the adoption process last year, one of the first things I did was purchase 24 Fuzzibunz One-Size Diapers from a local retailer, for the future baby that would come to our home one day. Little did I know that six short weeks later our son would be placed with us.
By choosing to cloth diaper Eli, I feel like I am giving him the best that we can offer as parents. The first few weeks that he spent in disposables were a constant mess of red skin and bleeding diaper rash…since the switch his skin has been clear and healthy. I like knowing we are doing something natural, and safe, and beneficial for him. I have added to my diaper “stash” since he was born and am in love with new Fuzzibunz Elites that we just purchased. Adoption is also expensive, and I always tell waiting adoptive families that cloth diapering is one way to recoup some of the agency cost. By the time Eli is potty trained, we will have saved enough money to offset application and home study fees. Between the cost and the benefits to our child, it has certainly changed our life for the better.
Q: The first thing I do when I wake up is….
Honestly, the first thing I do is look over and stare at my baby in thankful amazement. Even though he is over six months old, Eli still sleeps in a mini-crib in our bedroom for attachment purposes. Every morning, I check on my sweet baby and feel overwhelmed with how awesome his story is. I love that he is close by and that he is learning early that we will always be there for him. And….the second thing I do is check Facebook on my phone….not quite so deep and moving, huh?
Q: No matter how much time it takes, I always….
Find time to talk to my friends and husband. I love my family, and LOVE being a mother. However, we mamas (and dads!) need to remember to also care for ourselves and foster healthy relationships. Even if its a 15-minute phone conversation with my best friend, I try to make sure to stay connected, to ask about how others are doing and to (very) occasionally go out for lunch or coffee without the babies. I think it makes us better parents in the long run. Playdates are fantastic and certainly one of my favorite parts of motherhood. But the “Girls Night Out” dinner I had with some friends from church this week was equally needed and actually re-energizing for me. Of course, we still talked about babies half the time anyways…but I returned home that evening ready to cuddle Eli, feeling refreshed as a mommy.
Q: The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…..
A random assortment of pamphlets and flyers on community events. Being employed in human services for seven years, I accumulate a lot of “stuff” in my car, bag and house. Providing families with resources as a career trickles over into my personal life, too. I love being able to whip out a brochure for someone about a local daycare, pull out my phone and give a friend the names and numbers of two local eye specialists for kids or tell everyone I know where the upcoming community rummage sales are. MOPS, special needs and adoption support groups, and free events for kids are all on my radar. Community connectedness is important to me and I like to pass that knowledge on to others.
Q: If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be….
I do like style and enjoy dressing up when its appropriate…but I am all about comfort! I would have to say my favorite outfit is my black capri pants that are sooooo faded and old, and a cotton tank top (with a zip up hoodie if its chilly!). Flip-flops are also my shoe of choice. We spend weekends through the summer at our family’s cabin in the mountains and my capris/tank/flip-flops is my uniform for the warm months. The second I get home from work, I change into “comfy clothes”- then I feel like I can relax, hang out with my husband and play with Eli. I even have a stash of comfy clothes at my mom’s house for when we go there to hang out!

Last week on Facebook we asked “what is your favorite cloth diapering tip or trick?” Well, you answered. Your answers were so helpful and informative that we couldn’t choose just one. Today’s Monday Mama feature is a compilation of moms who have great tips and tricks about how to cloth diaper when you’re on the road, leaving your little ones with a babysitter or preparing the diaper station for dad to take over diaper-changing duty.
Pull Double Duty. ”When out and about, I bring two wet bags: one to hold the clean diapers, wipes and change pad and another bag to keep the dirty items after changing the baby. This will help you keeps everything in your little one’s diaper bag neat and organized.” – Erika Isenor
Diaper Prep for Dad. ”I like to “prep” my night time diapers ahead of time so that my husband knows the difference between lighter diapers and heavy diapers for our heavy nighttime wetter. To make it super easy, I keep our “night diapers” in a separate place and prep each one with the extra insert/doublers and an additional fleece liner if that diaper needs it. That way, all he has to do is pick a diaper from that stack and put it on her. He can be helpful and I don’t get frustrated that my daughter was in the ‘wrong’ diaper for the night!” – Jennifer Peplowski Perrite
Get Supplies Ready To-Go. ”Instead of wet bags, we use quart-sized freezer bags to store wet bunz when out of the house. Before leaving, I prep our bunz by putting a wipe and a freezer bag folded inside each stuffed diaper, so i just grab one “packet” per change. The bags are airtight, smell-proof and pretty much leakproof. FuzziBunz diapers fit really well inside.” – Benoit Pascale
Insert Insight. “When you’re away from home, remove the insert before you put the wet/dirty diaper in the wetbag. Then you don’t have to fish through dirty diapers when you get home. I like to remove the insert, lay it across the open diaper and then fold up the diaper with the insert on the inside, that way the wet/dirty part of the diapers doesn’t touch my wetbag.” – Jodi Jordan
Be Prepared. “I always keep two extra diapers in the car in case I forget to bring them when we’re out and about,” – Mallory Templeton

Lisa Kuhl is a busy mom of three (3) kids blogging about cloth diapers, breastfeeding, parenting, babywearing, co-sleeping, green and natural products, pets and more at The Secret Life of a SAHM. Let’s hear a few of this cloth diapering mom’s favorite tips and tricks that she’s learned along the way.
Change it up! When starting out buy a variety of diapers instead of all the same ones. Diaper work and fit differently for each baby. Ones that work great for your friends might not work great for you.
Keep ‘em clean. Strip your diapers once a month to keep build-up at bay. Stripping diapers regularly will keep them nice and fresh – no one wants their diapers to smell like a barn!
Reduce build-up, naturally. When you wash your diapers be sure to do a cold rinse before washing them with hot water and detergent. The cold rinse will get all the “nasties” out of the diapers and lower your chances of staining. After your hot wash, do a second wash on hot without soap to help lower build-up in diapers.
Got stains? No one likes stains, but every cloth diapering parent knows that they happen from time to time. Spray some lemon juice on them and lay the diapers in the sun for a natural way to “bleach” your diapers.
Reduce redness. Leg elastic leaving red marks or indentations on your baby? Try running your finger along it after you put the diaper on. That will make sure there is no bunching up and ensure a proper fit, which should rid your little one of painful redness.

Carrie Wells is a cloth diapering mom extraordinaire. In this video she shares with us why she loves cloth diapers, and why she chooses FuzziBunz.
She became a cloth diapering mom when her daughter, Olivia, was just three months old. She was using eco-friendly disposable diapers, but they leaked and required frequent changing, which she said didn’t feel very environmentally friendly. She wanted to try something different. She learned about cloth diapers, thought they were cute and invested in five diapers to start. She tried them out and hasn’t turned back since!
Now her five month old son is using the same cloth diapers too her daughter used – brilliant!
She says she loves FuzziBunz because they are easy to use – they snap on easily, don’t stain and she loves the pocket-style reusable concept. Plus, she says they’re super simple to wash!
“It’s the right choice for my children… and it’s the right choice for the environment, less chemicals and less waste,” Carrie says.

Becca Eisen of Goleta, California, and mom to the adorable and quite busy Cruz, shares with us how cloth diapers hasn’t changed her a bit, and she shares with us her addition for lipstick and lip gloss (we feel the same way around here!). Enjoy!
1. Cloth diapers have change my life… In many ways, cloth diapering hasn’t changed my life, which is a good thing! I’m not a slave to laundry like I feared I would be. I have not spent a lot of money on my diaper stash, which I had worried about. I have had to change very little about my life in order to become a cloth diapering family.
In a bigger sense, cloth diapering has changed my life because I feel empowered as a mom to make the best decisions for my family, even when they seem difficult or against the norm. I’ve been so proud that our family has embraced cloth diapering.
2. The first thing I do when I wake up is…. head downstairs for some quiet time. I try to wake up before everyone else to spend a few minutes in silence centering myself, praying, and planning for the day. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s so much more energizing than waking up to the baby over the monitor.
3. No matter how much time it takes, I always…. take my son Cruz with me to the grocery store. Counter-intuitive, right? I’ve found that everyone is so much nicer and more helpful when he’s along!
4. The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is….. my massive collection of lipsticks and lip gloss. I may not have showered for days, my hair might be in a perma-ponytail, and my yoga pants will certainly be covered in drool, but wearing lipstick makes me feel pulled together.
5. If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…. a maxi dress, long cardigan, and sandals.

Amanda Jones is mom to a son (9 months)! She loves cloth diapers and carries some interesting “survival” items in her diaper bag. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I started cloth diapering when my son was 3 months old. I tried about 9 different systems and brands, and found the FuzziBunz pocket style cloth diapers work best for our little soaker! Cloth diapering is such a savings! Not only on the pocketbook but also the landfills. Each diaper that DOESN’T end up in a landfill is a triumph! I am also hoping that the rumors of early potty training are true for cloth diapering kiddos! It’s also fun to talk to people about CDing! They look at you like you’re crazy most of the time, but I sit and look the same way at them for NOT trying it!!
Q. The first thing I do when I wake up is…
A. I make a cup of free-trade organic shade-grown coffee. I (sometimes) get to enjoy it before the baby gets up. Then I change his diaper and make our breakfast!
Q. No matter how much time it takes, I always…
A. Read to my son and tell him I love him.
Q. The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…
A. A headlamp! LOL. Yes, like the kind you use for camping. It’s a Black Diamond LED headlamp and must be a habit from my days as a wildland firefighter. I pack all kinds of ‘what if’ essentials!
Q. If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…
A. A pair of jeans that fit just right, a nursing tank top, a comfortable tee shirt, a fleece jacket with plenty of pockets, and my mukluks. Oh, and merino wool socks.

Scott Kerns is a SAHD to Emma (4 months). He quit his job so he could raise his daughter full-time. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering dad a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. Cloth diapers make diapering more convenient. When Emma was born, she was too small for our FuzziBunz. She used disposables for about a month. We had to remember to put diapers on the grocery list and make sure we bought the right size. Diaper rash was a constant worry. With cloth diapers, we never have to worry about diaper rash, which is a big relief. If we run low on diapers, we just do a load of laundry. When we have another baby, she will use the same diapers that Emma used. All in all, very convenient. Thank you FuzziBunz!
Q. The first thing I do when I wake up is…
A. Feed Emma if she’s hungry. Emma has shown that this is in my best interests as well, more than making coffee
Q. No matter how much time it takes, I always…
A. Write or call my wife when she is at work. I know she is always thinking about us, so I keep her up-to-date on what we are up to.
Q. The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…
A. A nose bulb and a spare rattle in case Emma gets fussy in public. This probably isn’t that unusual, but our diaper bag is strictly business.
Q. If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…
A. A polo shirt and jeans. So far, being a stay-at-home dad makes this a reality.

Malia McKee is mom to a 22 month old son and another little boy due in February 2012! She loves cloth diapers because she feels like she is helping the environment while avoiding major blowouts. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I feel like I am really helping the environment by not throwing away bags and bags of diapers on a weekly basis! I couldn’t believe how much waste we had once our son was born…we were throwing away large bags of dirty diapers every few days! The other great benefit from using cloth is that we rarely have blowouts (if at all)…in fact, I can’t remember the last time we had a “pooplosion” while in a cloth diaper! I remember hearing my son poop in the morning while we were still using disposables and I would literally jump out of bed, grab him out of the bassinet, and hold him upright to minimize the blowout! A basin full of Oxyclean and dirty linens and clothes was a staple for the first 3 months, but now we never have to worry about it!
Q. The first thing I do when I wake up is…
A. Kiss my son!
Q. No matter how much time it takes, I always…
A. Make sure to tuck my son into bed and stay with him until he falls asleep. Whether that means reading him 20 different stories, singing him silly songs, or repeating “Humpty Dumpty” 100 times!
Q. The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…
A. An excessive amount of gum, Altoids, and lip balm. I always feel like I need to have extras in case I lose one (or two)! I also carry two pairs of sunglasses with me at all times, in case I lose a pair! I can’t go outside without a pair of sunglasses on!
Q. If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…
A. Black yoga pants, a simple tank top, and a cozy cardigan!
