Monday Mama: This Indiana Mom Isn’t “Bewitched” by Cloth Diapers

Ruth Plank is a cloth diapering fool and loves spending time with her 18-old-month-old cloth-loving son, Asher. Let’s get to know her…

Q:  How did you first hear about FuzziBunz and modern cloth diapers?

A:  I heard about modern cloth diapers through a parenting website I visited before I got pregnant.  I had heard specifically of another brand that I thought I knew was the one for my son, Asher.  We purchased a whole supply of those diapers and once he arrived I was not happy with that style.  So upon further research, I found a website that allowed me to try cloth diapers for 21 days, and that’s when I fell in love with FuzziBunz!

Q:  Why do you cloth diaper?

A:  There are several reasons…  at first it was all about saving money and having natural products against Asher’s bottom instead of the chemicals in disposables.  Lately, I have really started to appreciate the environmental impact of disposables not breaking down for hundreds and hundreds of years, and am even more passionate about cloth diapering.

Q:  Please share with us your best CD washing/caring tip.

A:  Do not get stuck on one detergent being the absolute best one, there is not one that fits everyone.  Sometimes one great product will not  work for you.  Don’t settle for stink issues or rash issues, thinking that you must be doing something wrong.  Those issues are not normal and might be a sign that you need a different detergent for your wash routine.

Q:  What one word describes your parenting style?

A:  Holistic

Q:  If you could be any TV or movie mom (real or character), who would it be and why?

A:  Samantha Stevens (mom from Bewitched) because I really want to be able to just wiggle my nose and take care of cooking, cleaning, laundry and household responsibilities!  :)
