Malia McKee is mom to a 22 month old son and another little boy due in February 2012! She loves cloth diapers because she feels like she is helping the environment while avoiding major blowouts. Let’s get to know this cloth diapering mom a bit more:
Q. How have cloth diapers changed your life?
A. I feel like I am really helping the environment by not throwing away bags and bags of diapers on a weekly basis! I couldn’t believe how much waste we had once our son was born…we were throwing away large bags of dirty diapers every few days! The other great benefit from using cloth is that we rarely have blowouts (if at all)…in fact, I can’t remember the last time we had a “pooplosion” while in a cloth diaper! I remember hearing my son poop in the morning while we were still using disposables and I would literally jump out of bed, grab him out of the bassinet, and hold him upright to minimize the blowout! A basin full of Oxyclean and dirty linens and clothes was a staple for the first 3 months, but now we never have to worry about it!
Q. The first thing I do when I wake up is…
A. Kiss my son!
Q. No matter how much time it takes, I always…
A. Make sure to tuck my son into bed and stay with him until he falls asleep. Whether that means reading him 20 different stories, singing him silly songs, or repeating “Humpty Dumpty” 100 times!
Q. The most unusual thing in my diaper bag or purse is…
A. An excessive amount of gum, Altoids, and lip balm. I always feel like I need to have extras in case I lose one (or two)! I also carry two pairs of sunglasses with me at all times, in case I lose a pair! I can’t go outside without a pair of sunglasses on!
Q. If I could live in one outfit for the rest of my life, it would be…
A. Black yoga pants, a simple tank top, and a cozy cardigan!
