Michelle Parrott is a former teacher and runs her house like a tight ship (most of the time
) Let’s get to know this military wife a bit more:
Q. How did you first hear about FuzziBunz and modern cloth diapers?
A: I first heard about FuzziBunz from a number of my friends who cloth diapered before I had children, they were in love with the diapers. Two years later, when I started researching cloth diapering on my own, I went to the first name that popped in my head – FuzziBunz!
Q: Why do you cloth diaper?
A: I started cloth diapering primarily to help save money for our family. We found out I was pregnant with our 2nd child when our 1st was only 7 months old! A few months later we found out that we would be making the move from Texas to England! Since we’d be leaving Texas, that meant I’d be leaving my job, putting us down to just a military salary. I wanted to do everything I could to help with the costs since I would get to stay home with our kiddos.
Once I started my CD’ing research I found there were SO many more benefits! I felt so awful after we started because our 1st son’s diaper rash, which he probably had all 15 months of disposables, went away the day after we started using cloth!! That right there was worth every bit of it to me! (and I’m sure to our son too!)
Q: Please share with us your best CD washing/caring tip
A: My best piece of advice to help care for your diapers – sun/line dry them whenever you can. Not only is the sun a natural bleaching agent but it helps save on drying costs, and the wear on the elastic that a dryer can do. A second piece of advice – find out what type of water you have so you can tackle any detergent issues you may have. I learned the hard way – we had CRAZY hard water and my diapers were leaking EVERY SINGLE TIME. I was ready to trash my diapers I was so mad. Thankfully, a wonderful CD’ing detergent company worked with me and helped me find the right type of solution for my dipes. I haven’t had any issues since!
Q: What one word describes your parenting style?
A: If I had to describe my parenting style, I would probably say it’s structured. Is that even a style?! I am a former teacher, so I find myself
running the house like my classroom. I have a schedule that we follow on a weekly basis – but that’s not to say I don’t find myself straying away from time to time. Parenting is a tricky thing, you have to juggle being a parent first but also include being a snuggle bunny, comedian, jungle gym, and an enforcer of the law.
Q: If you could be any TV or movie mom (real or character), who would it be and why?
A: If I could be any other mom, real or TV, I’d probably like to be Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) from Modern Family. She makes me laugh constantly and she just keeps it real. She reminds me of how I can get – with that whole OCD factor - yet she somehow just makes it all work. I love it.
