I have a constant internal debate when I am choosing new diapers to purchase or even deciding which one to put on at diaper changes: One Size or Perfect Size diapers?
Note: In all of these photos, I used the Grape One Size and the Crushed Berries Perfect Size Small.
As most FuzziBunz mamas will tell you, there are advantages to each and as quickly as my daughter grows and her body changes, my preferences seem to change as well. Originally, I was all about the FuzziBunz One Size. There is no doubt it’s the most cost-effective option because it will theoretically fit from newborn to potty-training (though I couldn’t get the One Size to fit my peanut-of-a-newborn adequately until she was probably six weeks). But now that she fits the One Size, I can definitely see how much more room they have to expand as she grows. Unless we have a serious growth spurt, they will easily fit until she can use the potty (in two years or so – eeks!).
I love the fact that I can make so many adjustments to them and customize them perfectly to her sweet little body.
What I am not in love with is the way the One Size seems to bunch a little in the rear and sometimes the sides.
I guess it’s because the fabric for the fully-expanded diaper needs to go somewhere. Not ideal, but definitely a trade-off I am willing to make to keep the same diapers around for her diapered life. And look how cute!
When she was a newborn, the very first FuzziBunz we owned was an extra-small Perfect Size (in Crushed Berries). It was adorably tiny and fit her so well even when she was just a week or two old. Until then, I had been a believer in the One Size for practicality, but that one little extra-small started to change my mind (I loved it so much, I lent it to a friend for her newborn and got the Crushed Berries in the next size up, pictured here!).
Perfect Size Small (in Crushed Berries) has only one snap on each side of the waist. The hip snap makes adjusting around the legs a lot easier.
In my experience, the sized diapers are a little trimmer and I love that they are so smooth in the rear.
We now have several Perfect Size Smalls and I keep thinking she is going to grow out of them, but at 7 months and about 15-16 lbs, they still fit her…well, perfectly.
They, too, are adjustable around the waist (though not as much as the One Size with only one snap instead of two) and at the upper leg via snaps (which I think makes a big difference since there is no elastic adjustability). One downside, other than the fact that she will eventually outgrow them, is that the insert that comes with them is too short compared to the two that come with the One Size. I have found that the Perfect Sizes are wider between the legs and the insert, though shorter, is wider. I generally use them during the day when she won’t be doing any super soaking.
Perfect Size Small on the left with insert and One Size on the right with both inserts that are included. I can even use the One Sizes as a night time diaper stuffed with both inserts!
Even after this (somewhat) thorough examination, I am still not 100% sold on which one I prefer. The bottom-line is that I think they both serve a purpose and it certainly makes us very happy to have some of each in our stash.
What do you think? Do you prefer your FuzziBunz to be One Size or Perfect Size? Tell me why!
