Summer has been a long time coming where I live. We braved a wicked winter and battled several feet of snow this year. And now? Summer’s here with a vengeance. During the past two weeks, it has been H-O-T. So hot that my daughter has spent a good deal of time like this:
And I love it. This is the part of cloth diapering I have been most looking forward to since our journey began: wearing her cloth diapers proudly, exploring the world. With nothing else on.
I always hesitated to let my son chill in only his sposie even on the hottest days. It’s funny, but to me, a baby in only a disposable diaper somehow says “my parents don’t care” or “Mommy forgot a clean outfit.” Yet a baby in only a cloth diaper seems as polished and put together as can be.
Speaking of diapers finally exposed, my favorite colors for the summer are decidedly the brights: Mac N’ Cheese, Watermelon, Big Sky, Apple Green, Crushed Berries. They are so fresh and provide such a great contrast to my girl’s soft skin. And when she is clothed, I love to see the corner of a little red dipe poking out around the legs!
But in weather this hot, sometimes there are things not even a cute bright diaper can fix.
So here’s to welcoming summer with open arms and at least 90 more days of diaper-only weather!
